Providence to host National Night Out

The classic “Red Light,€“ Green Light”€ game provides a fun way for children to learn the basics of traffic safety during the National Night Out Block Party at Providence, and nicely complement’€™s the evening’€™s goal of strengthening relationships with law enforcement and community safety partners. The free event will be 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 4 at Knickerbocker Park in the Providence Master Planned Community in northwest Las Vegas.

The game features a real traffic light to direct participants forward to the finish line or stop them in their tracks. An emcee will send them back to the starting line if they don’t stop when the red light shines.

“Red Light, Green Light is easy to play and gives youngsters a sense of the importance of heeding traffic lights in an entertaining way,” said Jenna Bell, lifestyle director of the Providence Master Homeowners Association, an event sponsor. “And we can accommodate many players on Knickerbocker Park’€™s field.

“We invite everyone to join us at this family-friendly event that provides a great opportunity to meet with community first responders,” she said.

The National Night Out Block Party at Providence is designed to raise crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and unity, and foster community-law enforcement partnerships. There will be interactive and educational activities, booths and emergency response equipment, including a helicopter for kids to see, touch and explore. Participants include the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, Nevada Highway Patrol, and other first responders and community groups.

Target is providing free popsicles and water, and other treats will be available for sale.

P.D., the loveable Providence dog mascot, also will there to greet guests.

Knickerbocker Park amenities include tot lots, swing set, small and large dog areas, splash pad, jogging path with exercise stations, picnic areas, and a softball field and multiuse event field for soccer and volleyball, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is at 10695 Dorrell Lane, north of the I-215 Beltway and Hualapai Way exit.

Sponsored by the Providence Master Homeowners Association and Providence Master Planned Community, the annual National Night Out Block Party at Providence is one of largest events of its kind in the northwest area. For information, call 702-216-2020.
