Sun West Custom Homes builds elaborate indoor-outdoor kitchens that become the heart of the home
Sun West Custom Homes has a reputation for making the kitchen the focal point of a home. The builder’s new luxury show home, Waters Edge at MacDonald Highlands, takes the kitchen to a new level, giving owners a seamless cooking experience with the line between stovetop and outdoor ranges virtually erased.
“You literally will have to take a second and third look to see the separation in the appliances and cupboards that allow the glass walls to retract at Waters Edge,” Dan Coletti, owner of Sun West Custom Homes, said. “For a lot of our residents, their dream home makes the kitchen the center of the fun. The sight and smells of cooking are what make entertaining such a memorable experience. Our kitchens are right there in the heart of the action — not tucked away, taking the cook and the cooking out of the party.
“The bartender has a special view of sunsets,” he added. “You aren’t going to find a better place to watch a spectacular Southern Nevada sunset than our indoor-outdoor bar that overlooks a fire pit and our infinity pool, with the Las Vegas Strip framed by an incredible sunset beyond.”
Waters Edge at MacDonald Highlands, located at 647 Cityview Ridge Drive in Henderson, is perfect for the professional chef. The home includes a walk-in custom-built refrigerator cabinet side by side with a massive Sub-Zero refrigerator-freezer. Heat from the kitchen is swept to the ceiling and beyond by a convection current. That convection current is created by a water wall that cools the air in the basement, which then circulates up a massive staircase and picks up heated air on the main floor kitchen. The warm air rises to the top of the home’s ceiling, where automated shutters allow it to be released outside.
In the past several years, cooking at these levels has become wildly popular.
“Fifteen years ago, the only thing our clients made for dinner was reservations. Now it’s about owning and displaying fine wine, and leaving plenty of room on countertops for food preparation,” Coletti said.
“It allows us to keep one end of the home wide open to uninterrupted views of the Las Vegas Strip that can be easily closed off with massive glass panels that can be moved with one hand.”
The show home is in MacDonald Highlands. The major cross streets are Valle Verde Drive and Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson. The home is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Mondays. Call the sales office at 702-616-3030. For more information, please visit sunwestcustomhomes.com.
