Inspirada hosts party for Make-A-Wish kid

Maya Cortes was still floating on cloud nine after a magical Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World when Inspirada continued to sweep the little princess off her feet with a Little Mermaid-themed party. Battling a form of kidney cancer known as Wilm's tumor, the 4-year-old Inspirada resident was joined by about 30 guests for a poolside afternoon that served pizza, lemonade and live entertainment in Solista Park.

Because Maya is a swimming enthusiast, the festivities took place at the Solista Park swimming pool, one of four resident-only pools in the fully planned community. Matthew "DJ Matt" Beckwith donated his musical talent and played beach-inspired tunes, while Haggen's Grocery Store manager Jose Todaro provided chocolate-covered strawberries — one of Maya's favorite desserts. Maya's family, including mother Denise, father Nathaniel and three older siblings, joined other Inspirada residents at the welcome-home party.

Las Vegas HUD properties refinanced

Greystone, a real estate lending, investment and advisory company, announced that it has provided two loans for separate Las Vegas affordable housing properties totaling $30.7 million. In the $13 million acquisition of Summerhill Apartments, a 221-unit community built in 1998, Greystone provided a 35-year Federal Housing Administration-insured loan that includes rehabilitation costs, estimated at $28,363 per unit. The community is spread across 14 two-story buildings with amenities such as an exercise room, community room, swimming pool and picnic, barbecue and play areas.

Villanova Apartments was refinanced for $17.7 million with a seven-year Freddie Mac loan carrying a 30-year amortization. The property, built in 2002 using 4 percent low-income housing tax credits and tax-exempt bonds, is restricted to 60 percent AMI. Spread across 44 two-story residential buildings, the 348-unit community includes amenities such as a clubhouse, fitness center, business center and swimming pool.

The 2016 International Builders' Show slated

The National Association of Home Builders will hold its 2016 NAHB International Builders' Show Jan. 19-21 in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, the National Kitchen & Bath Association's Kitchen & Bath Industry Show, the International Window Coverings Expo and The International Surface Event will also hold expos. While the shows remain separate, all IBS registrants will have access to the exhibit floors of all of the shows held as part of Design & Construction Week.

More than 1,300 of the industry's top manufacturers and suppliers covering 500,000 net square feet of exhibit space will pack the IBS show floor with the latest and most innovative products. Kicking off this year's show is "Tonight Show" host and stand-up comedian Jay Leno, who will serve as the keynote speaker for the opening ceremonies. The IBS Spike Concert presented by GEICO will feature a Hall & Oates concert.

The New American Home, the official show home of the International Builders' Show will be showcased. Now in its 33rd year, The New American Home is constructed annually in conjunction with IBS to showcase innovative construction technologies, emerging design trends and the latest building products. NAHB and Professional Builder magazine co-produce the show home. The products in the home are provided by members of the NAHB Leading Suppliers Council.

The National Association of Home Builders is a Washington-based trade association representing more than 140,000 members involved in homebuilding, remodeling, multifamily construction, property management, subcontracting, design, housing finance, building product manufacturing and other aspects of residential and light commercial construction. NAHB is affiliated with 800 state and local homebuilders associations around the country. NAHB's builder members will construct about 80 percent of the new housing units projected for this year.

GLVAR announces officers, board members

The Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors has announced the results of its annual election of officers and board members, with local Realtors Scott Beaudry serving as 2016 president and David J. Tina serving as 2016 president-elect.

GLVAR members voted Aug. 13 through Aug. 27.

Other officers are Vice President Christopher Bishop; Treasurer Janet Carpenter; and directors Jillian Batchelor, Thomas Blanchard, Kolleen Kelley, Aldo M. Martinez and Brandon Roberts. Representing Mesquite is Torres Ramey. Gaylan Bryant represents Pahrump.

Realtors who were not up for election and will serve as directors are Vandana Bhalla, Omar Lopez, Keith Lynam (immediate past president), Krystal Sherry and Mark Sivek.
