A Real Plus
When Sydney Baker-LeBlanc shopped for a prom dress in Los Angeles just over a decade ago she had a head-on collision with reality. It appeared evening wear designers had even less consideration for plus sizes than ready to wear.
Fast forward several years and she discovered the same of the bridal industry. Motivated by the two less than joyful shopping experiences, Baker-LeBlanc launched a bridal and evening wear Web site for plus-size women (moretoolove.com) and a store in Las Vegas, More 2 Love.
With sizes that go up to 5x, she plans to provide options for all large women, not just the marketable kind in Hanes underwear ads. “You can pretty much find 1x to 3x anywhere,” she says. “I’m going after that woman who feels alienated, like less of a woman because she’s larger.”
