The city’s Adaptive Recreation Program was selected to receive the funding to support local community programs and opportunities for disabled veterans and members of the military.
The city’s Adaptive Recreation Program, which is part of the Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department, levels the playing field for people with disabilities, giving them the opportunity to participate in recreational activities. Through activity modifications and special equipment, disabled athletes are able to play alongside their non-disabled peers.
As a result of this grant, no-cost enrollment for injured military personnel in adaptive activities will be available while grant funds last. The programs include a wide array of activities that offer a fun way to stay fit, including recreation and outdoor/adventure experiences, fishing clinics, one-on-one swim lessons, aquatic therapy and a seasonal golf program.
