All about

Regardless of the style, color or size of its chairs and sofas, Ekornes is all about comfort.

Since the 1970s, the company has been building its Stressless line of chairs, recliners and sofas to offer the most comfort and support to the lumbar area as possible. In fact, the line is endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association.

The company’s recliners also employ a patented system that adjusts automatically, allowing body weight to determine the right level of support, and are offered in at least two sizes so that people with different builds can find a chair that fits their needs.

The new Alpha recliner and Sector armrest table were showcased in Ekornes’ showroom at the World Market Center during this week’s trade show for the home-furnishings industry. The pieces made their debut in the showroom during the winter event at the facility.

Featuring chevron-shaped leather detailing using contrast stitching, the Alpha has a sleek, contemporary look. It is available in two sizes and in more than 50 leather colors and seven varieties of wood grain.

The Sector armrest table was designed to enhance three of the line’s most popular home-theater seating groups. It can be used to attach seating in multiple configurations.

The armrest table can be used to join two single sofa chairs, or any combination of chair to sofa/love seat, or sofa to sofa in the Arion, Wave or Space design groups.

“One of the major advantages (of the armrest table) is that you can live in a normal house and still have the comfort of home-theater seating,” said Joyce Poole, a company spokesman. “This is manageable for any size room. It’s all about comfort and what fits into your house.”

The table is a wedge-shaped piece that is part armrest and part table. The wooden table on the front can be lifted up and swung to the side, and covers a small storage compartment for remote controls and small items.

“Being a successful company isn’t just about developing new products. It is also about looking at your existing product lines and figuring out how to make them even better,” said Peter Bjerregaard, president.

Established in 1934, Ekornes is the leading manufacturer of sofas and chairs in Scandinavia, with corporate offices in New Jersey to serve the North American market.
