Century evokes images of Bali

Denpasar, the newest collection of indoor/outdoor furniture from Richard Frinier for Century Leisure, evokes the exotic island experience of Bali.

The collection debuted in earlier this year at the home-furnishings trade show in High Point, N.C.

“This furniture evokes the exquisite architecture and landscape of the courtyard homes and gardens you see beyond temple gate entrances when you traverse the island of Bali,” Frinier said. “These homes at first appear simple, but the exotic, hand-crafted artistry imbued into each habitat is unmistakably Balinese, like the earlier art of the island originated to decorate its temples and palaces.”

The Denpasar Collection features articulately hand-woven Hularo framework in the rich and textural colors of Timor and Borneo. Distinctive architectural styling interprets design elements from the Dutch and Indonesian colonial periods. The sweeping arcs and romantic spiral volutes reflect the artistry, color and diversity of the island’s villages and people.

The collection for the home and garden is woven using traditional herringbone and cane weaving techniques embellishing the Dutch and Indonesian colonial period styling. Faux-stone tabletops balance with either woven or faux-stone table bases with references to authentic Balinese architecture.

Other highlights of the collection include:

* Pieces were designed to the discriminating standards of the finest indoor furniture, yet built to withstand the rigors of full-time outdoor exposure with routine maintenance.

* Both materials — the powder coated hand- and machine-formed extruded aluminum frames and hand-woven synthetic weaving fiber — are durable, recyclable and Earth- friendly.

* Generously scaled, plush cushions may be upholstered in a wide offering of high-performance Sunbrella fabrics designed by Frinier, which are woven from 100 percent solution-dyed acrylic fiber that resists fading, deterioration and mildew.

“Denpasar conveys the tactile characteristics and emotion of furniture uniquely made by hand,” says Edward M. Tashjian, Century’s vice president of marketing. “It’s a complement to Archipelago from the Richard Frinier Collection for Century Leisure, which means consumers attracted to this style have even more options.

Both collections convey a luxurious resort-at-home feel and may be eclectically mixed for both indoor and outdoor settings.”
