Design Center sale nets funds for charities

More than 6,000 people attended and more than $67,000 was raised as the California Central Nevada chapter of American Society of Interior Designers hosted its first premarket inventory clearance sale recently at the Las Vegas Design Center at World Market Center.

Nevada Aids Project, Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas and Opportunity Village each received a third of the $67,570 that was raised during the event.

Approximately 70 showrooms participated in the sale and offered discounts on designer home furnishings, accessories, lamps, area rugs and wall décor. Additionally, many interior designers were on hand to help members of the community with their purchases and were tapped for future work as well.

“It was a win-win for the showrooms and the design community; the showrooms were able to sell their sample merchandise to make way for new product for the next market, while many designers networked and helped the guests shop for their purchases,” said Kathy Kroger, director of Las Vegas Design Center. “Meanwhile, members of the community enjoyed interaction with the interior designers in guiding them through purchases. And best of all, three deserving charities were the ultimate beneficiaries of this first-time event.”

The design center plans to work with ASID and other local charities for future events. It occupies the first two floors of the two buildings currently open on the home-furnishings trade show campus and operates year-round as a venue for interior designers, design professionals and the hospitality design community.
