Looking for a rare or hard-to-grow plant? Need ideas on the best options for your xeriscape project? Whatever your garden needs, the staff at the Community College of Southern Nevada’s Desert Garden Center at 6221 W. Charleston Blvd. is there to help.

From its retail nursery to its horticulture program to its floral design program, the college’s Desert Garden Center began as an educational partner to help students and the community understand what grows best under what conditions.

The center carries everything from groundcovers, trees to perennials and cactus. It also has an extensive source of information sheets for all gardening needs, including native plants, advantages of xeriscape, poolside and container gardening, desert tortoise plants, etc.

sales of plants benefit the community college’s ornamental horticulture program. Employees are CCSN students who gain valuable knowledge and experience in the operation of a retail plant nursery. While employed, they also learn the selection and care of water-efficient plants, knowledge they pass-on to customers.

The Desert Garden Center is a partner with Easter Seals Southern Nevada. Adults with disabilities are trained to hand-water and care for the center’s plants.

The Desert Garden Center is open Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
