Pavers provider perfect path to the pool
The pathway to the pool and spa can be an enchanting walk over ancient stone. Pavers are a trendy, nostalgic and artistic decking alternative around waterscapes.
Influenced by European architecture, pavers give the home a warm, established and detailed appearance. Decorative paver materials are available in a variety of colors, types, thicknesses and patterns, and can be incorporated into any design style — from Old World to modern motifs.
Natural stone, brick, clay and cement pavers are excellent pool deck materials because of their durability, nonslip surfaces and low-maintenance qualities. Another benefit of pavers, especially sand-set pavers, is the ability to easily replace individual pieces that become damaged.
A versatile product, pavers provide endless design themes to highlight a walkway, define a lounging area or create a detailed mural. Note that in confined areas, a smaller pattern design will work best.
Natural flagstone, travertine and slate pavers transition well from indoors to the outside, giving a harmonious flow from the interior design to the exterior hard-scape. The innate hues and textures of natural pavers also blend well with other landscape adornments such as rocks, boulders and planting materials.
“Homeowners who desire an antique look should select a tumbled stone,” explains ArtCon estimator Victor Medellin. “Tumbling the pavers will soften the edges giving each piece an aged, worn appearance.”
Sealing the pavers can enhance their coloring and protect them from staining, but it is not required. Installing pavers around an inground pool or spa will necessitate a coping stone or concrete border around the shell of the structure.
With so many choices, from the irregular shapes and jagged edges of flagstone to the more linear, uniform style of slate tile pavers, one’s personal preferences along with the architecture of the home and pool will influence the type of pavers incorporated into a particular project.
