Workshop to explore ancient art of flowers
The Ikenobo Ikebana Society Nevada Chapter welcomes visiting Japan Ikebana Art Association professor Mitsuko Kato to a weekend seminar, Friday and June 23, at the Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave.
Arriving in Las Vegas from North Carolina as part of her international tour, Kato, who teaches in Kyoto, Japan, will lead students through a series of presentations on the ancient art of Ikebana.
Dating back several centuries, Ikebana is the art of arranging flowers in a manner that depicts the natural triangle, representing heaven, earth and man. The art form is as popular today as when it was created as a means in which to pay homage to Buddha.
Weekend events are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fee for the course is $140 per person and includes all of the fresh flowers to be used in each of the three arrangements students will create. Lunch will be provided.
