Fishing Report, June 21

■ LAKE MEAD – Striper action has picked up in the Vegas Wash, along the beaches north of the Hemenway launch ramp and in the upper basins. Near the beaches, anglers have been catching fish weighing about 3 pounds with cut anchovies. In the Vegas Wash, stripers are beginning to feed on the surface in the early morning. Smallmouth and largemouth bass have been keeping anglers busy out of Callville Bay and Echo Bay. Crank baits and jigs are catching the fish.

■ LAKE MOHAVE – Double-digit striped bass are bending rods at Willow Beach. Reports include fish tipping the scales at 20½ and 14 pounds; both bit on an AC Plug. The Willow Beach Fish Hatchery plants trout in the area every Friday morning. Farther south, anglers fishing out of Cottonwood Cove and Katherine Landing are catching striped bass on squid and cut anchovies. One angler caught three stripers weighing from 5 to 7 pounds at night while throwing a Rat’L Trap. Catfish from 2 to 5 pounds are taking baits at night.

■ LAUGHLIN – Cut baits are fooling striped bass and catfish from Davis Camp south past Casino Row. Anglers also are catching rainbow trout.

■ URBAN PONDS – The catfish bite should improve after this week’s fish plant; fish on the bottom with stink baits, night crawlers or hot dog slices. The next plant will take place in September. Anglers are catching bluegill with red worms or mealworms suspended below a bobber as well as on olive-colored flies. Limit is three fish.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA – Bass are biting on plastics and spinners, with the best action coming in the late afternoon and evening. Despite seasonal weed growth, anglers continue to find fair to good action for rainbow trout.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR – The Nevada Department of Wildlife last week planted more than 5,100 rainbow trout in this popular fishery. Anglers have experienced good fishing for three species of trout – browns, tigers and rainbows. Small spinners and lures, PowerBait and night crawlers will catch the fish.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR – Stocked rainbow trout and crappie have been keeping anglers busy. For crappie, fish dark-colored Gitzits, and for rainbow trout try Rooster Tails, Mepp’s spinners or Panther Martins. Worms, mini-marshmallows and PowerBait also will catch the fish.
