Las Vegas middle school on soft lockdown after police activity
Saville Middle School in the northwest valley was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon while Las Vegas police investigated a shooting and barricade in a nearby neighborhood.
At about 8 a.m., someone shot at a home on Iginlas Goal Avenue, down the street from the school at 8101 N. Torrey Pines Drive, Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.
A possible suspect was located at a home on the 6200 block of Ackerman Avenue shortly after. The suspect later “surrendered without incident,” Lt. David Gordon said Wednesday night.
Detectives were still on scene investigating, Gordon said about 9:15 p.m.
The lockdown at Saville went into effect about 10 a.m., but Principal Sean Davis said in a message to parents that it was a precautionary measure and that students and staff were proceeding with their normal schedule.
At least 13 students live in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred, Clark County School District spokesman Sgt. Bryan Zink said. Those students were held at the school until the neighborhood is cleared, he said.
