Plane crash leaves 1 dead near Boulder City

A small aircraft crashed near the Boulder City airport Sunday morning, killing its pilot, according to authorities.

The single-engine Extra EA-300 went down shortly before 9 a.m. near U.S. Highway 95 and Spring Canyon Road, about three miles southwest of Boulder City Municipal Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and Boulder City Fire Department.

The pilot, who was the only person aboard, died at the scene, the fire department said.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board said they would be investigating the wreck.

The Boulder City airport is about 25 miles southeast of Las Vegas.
