2 dead in single-car crash northeast of Las Vegas

(Nevada Highway Patrol)

Two people died a crash Sunday afternoon northeast of Las Vegas, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Troopers were called to state Route 168, which stretches between Glendale and Coyote Springs outside the Moapa River Indian Reservation, according to a tweet from the agency.

A 1995 Lexus sedan was westbound on Route 168 when it entered the right shoulder and overcorrected, crossing the eastbound lanes and leaving the road before crashing into a ravine, the Highway Patrol said in a statement.

The 19-year-old driver and 29-year-old passenger were not wearing seat belts, and both died at the scene. Both were California residents.

Impairment is suspected in the crash, the statement read.

The time of the crash is unknown, the Highway Patrol said, because it was reported by a passerby.

No further information was immediately available.
