At least 1 dead in multivehicle crash in northeast Las Vegas
A multivehicle crash Friday afternoon in the northeast valley left one man dead and three others hospitalized, Las Vegas police said.
The crash happened about 1:35 p.m. at the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Carey Avenue after a 2016 Hyundai Elantra failed to stop at a red light, striking two SUVs and sending debris toward a school bus, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release.
The Hyundai, driven by a 31-year-old man, was traveling south on Nellis at “excessive speed” when it didn’t stop for a red light, witnesses told police. The Hyundai then struck a 2003 GMC Envoy that was traveling west on Carey, as well as a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder that was turning left onto northbound Nellis, the release said
Debris from the crash struck a school bus, but no one inside the bus was injured, police said. The only people on the bus was the 60-year-old driver, a 50-year-old woman and a boy whose age was unknown.
The Hyundai’s driver was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died, police said.
The 37-year-old man driving the Envoy was hospitalized with minor injuries, while the 39-year-old woman who was a passenger was in critical condition on Friday. The woman’s injuries may be life threatening, police said.
A 30-year-old man driving the Pathfinder was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
The man’s death marks the 61st traffic-related fatality investigated by Metro this year, police said. He will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office after his family has been notified.
