Crash south of Las Vegas Strip kills pedestrian
Impairment is suspected after a crash early Friday morning south of the Strip killed a pedestrian.
The crash occurred just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of southbound Las Vegas Blvd. South and East Arby Avenue, north of Warm Springs Road, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Miguel Garcia.
The pedestrian, later identified as 18-year-old Isaiah Tecpa, of La Puente, California, attempted to cross the boulevard in an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck by a 2011 Dodge Durango driven by Christopher Thompson, 37, of Las Vegas.
Tecpa died of blunt-force injuries, according to the Clark County coroner’s office.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. This is the 121st traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2023.
Thompson was released on bond from the Clark County Detention Center. He has a status check scheduled for Feb. 26 in Las Vegas Justice Court.
