PT’S, SIERRA GOLD ANNOUNCE AUGUST FOOD AND DRINK SPECIALS

PT’s and Sierra Gold locations plan to offer food and drink specials this month.

Drink specials, starting at $2, are Bud Light, Landshark Lager, Cruzan Colada, Red Stag shot and Popper Cherry with Dekuyper Cherry Pucker, Red Stag and sour.

Food specials at PT’s are breaded pollock fish sandwich, The Italian gluten-free flatbread, grilled tilapia, garden salad with grilled chicken, chili cheese fry burger and dessert of choice. Specials are available 24 hours a day and start at $4.99.

The Sierra Gold food specials are the same except swap golden nuggets for the fish sandwich.

FOOD TRUCK ROUNDUP TO BENEFIT CLARK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Powder & Sun Board Shop and Grouchy John’s Coffee plan to present the first Help Us Do Some Good Food Truck Roundup to benefit the Clark County School District from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of Powder & Sun Board Shop, 4555 S. Fort Apache Road.

The event is set to feature five trucks, a Pizza Caffé, live music by DJ Zo, face painting and balloon twisting. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the school district’s School-Community Partnership Program, which helps gather school supplies for needy and homeless students.

Admission is free. Donations of money and school supplies are encouraged and are tax-deductible.

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION TO HOST FOOD FESTIVAL AT WORLD MARKET CENTER

The American Heart Association plans to host its first heart-healthy food festival, the Flavors of the Heart Multicultural Food Festival, from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the World Market Center, 495 S. Grand Central Parkway.

Sixteen chefs are scheduled to donate their time and expertise to show participants how to dine in a healthy way. Participating restaurants are set to include Market Grille Cafe, Mundo, Nove Italiano, Panevino Ristorante, Ferraro’s and Hash House A Go Go. Chef Carla Pellegrino from Bratalian and Bacio also plans to take part.

CUISINE IN THE COUNTRY SET FOR SATURDAY

The second Cuisine in the Country event is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday at Buckhorn Ranch in Alamo, about 90 miles north of Las Vegas.

Chefs from Mario Batali’s Las Vegas restaurants B&B Ristorante, Carnevino Italian Steakhouse and Otto Pizzeria are partnering with Lincoln County, NV Producer’s Cooperative for the casual, Italian-inspired dinner. The meal will feature fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, and meats, including Lincoln County beef and goat, along with classic Italian salads, vegetable dishes and desserts. Batali’s sommeliers have created a wine pairing to complement the courses.

FLEMING’S OFFERS WINE FOR SPECIAL PRICE

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, 8721 W. Charleston Blvd., is offering Silver Oak Cellar’s 2007 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon through Sept. 30 or until inventory runs out for $100 per bottle. The normal list price is $150 to $175 per bottle.

GRIMALDI’S INTRODUCES SEASONAL CHEESECAKE SELECTIONS

Grimaldi’s Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria has added seasonal cheesecake selections to its menu. Chocolate cheesecake and caramel and green apple cheesecake are made daily in-house and are $5.

SEBASTIANI WINE DINNER SET AT FLEMING’S

A four-course wine dinner featuring estate-bottled wines from Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, 8721 W. Charleston Blvd.

Winemaker Mark Lyon plans to be on hand at the event as an expert tasting guide. The reception course will feature tangerine-glazed pork belly, with Sebastiani Chardonnay Sonoma County 2009, followed by a first course of grilled peach salad with Sebastiani Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2008. The main course will be braised short ribs with grilled potato salad and grilled asparagus, served with Sebastiani Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2008. The dessert course will be amaretto chocolate fondue with sour cream pound cake and fresh fruit, served with Sebastiani Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2008.

LAS VEGAS RESTAURANT WEEK TO RUN TWO WEEKS STARTING AUG. 29

Las Vegas Restaurant Week is scheduled to raise funds for Three Square food bank at restaurants across the valley Aug. 29 through Sept. 11.

In honor of the event’s fifth anniversary, this year’s Restaurant Week has been extended to two weeks. Participating restaurants will offer unique, multi-course menus for $20.11, $30.11 or $50.11. A portion of each will go to Three Square to help fight hunger in Southern Nevada.

More than 80 restaurants are scheduled to participate, including The Capital Grille at Fashion Show mall, Rick Moonen’s rm seafood at Mandalay Bay, Comme Ça at the Cosmopolitan, Tao Asian Bistro at The Venetian and Diego Mexican Cuisine at the MGM Grand.

Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab at The Forum Shops at Caesars plans to offer a three-course menu for $50.11 featuring salad or stone crab bisque, filet mignon or Parmesan-crusted halibut, sides such as mashed potatoes or creamed spinach served family style and key lime pie or peppermint gelato with hot fudge for dessert.

Panevino Ristorante, 246 Via Antonio Ave., plans to offer a three-course menu for $50.11 featuring three options per course, including additional vegan selections for each course. First-course selections are choice of vegan artichoke and fennel soup, grilled marinated eggplant, pear and Gorgonzola salad or beef carpaccio. Second-course choices are vegan spinach tortelloni, four-cheese ravioli, grilled salmon or grilled chicken. Third-course options are vegan dark chocolate-covered strawberries, puff pastry with lemon cream and strawberries or duo of chocolate mousse and creme brulee.

Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman is lending his name to Oscar’s, a steakhouse that is set to open this fall in the dome that formerly housed Firefly in the newly renovated Plaza, 1 S. Main St.

TOMMY BAHAMA LAUNCHES RUMOLOGIST SEARCH

Tommy Bahama, which has a location in the valley at Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South, has launched a search for its first Tommy Bahama Rumologist.

In order to qualify, one must have a vast knowledge of all things related to rum. The grand prize includes $50,000 and becoming Tommy Bahama’s chief rum consultant and rum ambassador for the next year. The Rumologist also will help create new cocktails and rum-inspired menus.

The deadline for submissions is Monday. Participants are asked to create a short video. A winner will be announced on/or around Oct. 6.
