FENCING CAMPS PLANNED BY RED ROCK FENCING CENTER

Introduction to Fencing Camps for ages 5 to 9 and 9 to 15 are planned from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Red Rock Fencing Center, 8352 W. Warm Springs Road.

Participants will learn sportsmanship, the art and skill of fencing and have fun in the process. Fencing teaches focus, determination, coordination and thinking skills. Participants should bring their own lunch, but equipment will be supplied.

Camp fees are $200 per week with an early drop-off fee (7:30 to 9:15 a.m.) of $20 per day. The camp offers a 20 percent discount for siblings.

TOURACADEMY OFFERING GOLF INSTRUCTION

RAINBOW YOUTH SOCCER SIGNUPS UNDERWAY

Additional signups for the 2014 fall Rainbow Youth Soccer League are planned from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 14, 21 and 28 and July 12, 19 and 26 at Villa Pizza, 3385 S. Durango Drive. The cost is $120, and a birth certificate and wallet-size photo are required. Signups include 10 games, a uniform and a picture plaque.

FOOTHILL HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT PLANNED

Foothill Falcon Basketball is planning its annual summer basketball camp from 9 a.m. to noon June 12 in the Foothill High School gym, 800 College Drive, for boys and girls entering third through ninth grade. The $110 registration fee includes a personal evaluation, a camp T-shirt, skills instruction and competition.

NEVADA STATE PARKS OFFERING FREE ADMISSION DAY

Nevada State Parks is offering free day use admission to celebrate Discover Nevada State Parks Day, an official Nevada 150 event, on June 14 at all 23 Nevada state parks. The first 150 vehicles at each park on June 14 will receive a complimentary deck of commemorative Nevada Heritage playing cards.

Nevada State Parks will also be giving away two annual park passes per week during the four weeks leading up to Discover Nevada State Parks Day.

YOUTH SUMMER CAMP SCHEDULED

A camp for children is planned this summer at Life Time Athletic Summerlin, 10721 W. Charleston Blvd.

Called Powered Summer, the event is set to run through Aug. 22. Each week is to have a new theme and field trip, such as a Mission: Possible week and a trip to the bowling lanes at Red Rock Resort.

The cost for children is $200 per child, per week.

HENDERSON OFFERS WORLD’S LARGEST SWIM LESSON

The city of Henderson is preparing for the world’s largest swimming lesson at 8 a.m. June 20.

Henderson is joining the international event that is designated to raise awareness about child safety in and around the water.

The free event is set to take place at the Black Mountain Aquatic Complex, 599 Greenway Road; the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway; and the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.

MASTER GARDENERS PLAN MONTHLY TOURS

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners plan guided tours monthly at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road. The tours are free and open to the public.

The Demonstration Gardens contain more than 500 species of desert-appropriate landscape plants, including trees, shrubs, perennials, palms, cacti and agaves. Plants are identified by botanical and common names. The grounds are open for self-guided walks from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

To join the monthly tour, meet in the courtyard by 10 a.m. on the specified date. Walking shoes, water, hats or other appropriate items are suggested. Groups (five or more people) are requested to call Ann Edmunds, program coordinator, at 702-257-5587 at least two weeks in advance.

CENTENNIAL HILLS ACTIVE ADULT CENTER OFFERS WEEKLY SENIOR FITNESS CLASSES

The Centennial Hills Active Adult Center plans to offer 25 weekly fitness classes for adults 50 or older from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.

Classes include yoga, cardio dance and tai chi. Cost is $15 per month and includes use of the YMCA weight room and indoor lap pool for a limited time.

NEIGHBORHOOD REC CENTER OFFERS SENIOR ACTIVITIES

NATIONAL PARK SERVICE, BLM PLAN FEE-FREE DAYS FOR 2014

The National Park Service is offering opportunities in 2014 to enjoy national parks without paying an entrance fee. Those dates are Aug. 25, National Park Service birthday; Sept. 27, National Public Lands Day; and Nov. 11, Veterans Day weekend.

In Nevada, Death Valley National Park and Lake Mead National Recreation Area are slated to participate. For more information, visit nps.gov.
