Driver killed after striking light pole in central Las Vegas

Las Vegas police say a vehicle hit a light pole after striking a utility box in the central valley, killing the driver Saturday night in the central valley.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department arrived to the scene, near Las Vegas and Silverado Ranch boulevards, and found the driver dead, Metro Lt. Miguel Ibarra said.

The crash occurred at about 7:35 p.m. Saturday, he said.

The adult male driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle, Ibarra said.

The driver in his 50s was traveling eastbound on Silverado Ranch entering the Las Vegas Boulevard intersection with a green signal, according to a news release. The vehicle collided with the pole at the southeast corner. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, according to the release.

The incident is under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.
