Fire in northeast Las Vegas kills horse, goats

One horse and 15 to 20 goats were killed in a northeast valley fire Wednesday morning.

Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling said the fire started about 11:15 a.m. at a home at 2124 N. Walnut Road, near Lake Mead and Lamb boulevards.

A man who was injured while attempting to save the animals was taken to University Medical Center to be treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns.

Welling said 55 Clark County firefighters responded to the fire, which began in a shed and spread to several vehicles. Las Vegas and North Las Vegas firefighters also assisted.

A large number of units responded because of the high temperature, which required several rotations, Welling said.

One neighbor, Javier Reynoso, said he did not know the family, but was watching one of the horses that survived the blaze.
