Good chance of rain in valley; snow advisory issued
National Weather Service forecasters said today could be a wet one for the Las Vegas Valley, with a 50 percent chance of scattered showers increasing to 60 percent by the evening.
Temperatures are expected to hit a high of 54 degrees, with variable winds.
Enough snow will fall in the Spring and Sheep mountains to prompt the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory that will remain in effect until 10 p.m. The weather service issued the advisory primarily as a caution to drivers.
The storm will move quickly across the region, according to the weather service, dumping 3 to 5 inches of snow between 5,500 and 7,000 feet elevation and close to twice that amount above 7,000 feet.
Winds in the mountains will come from the southwest at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
The chance for rain in the valley will drop to 10 percent on Tuesday, with a high of 56 and wind gusts up to 30 mph.
No rain is forecast for the remainder of the week.
