Heat warning, stormy forecast issued for Las Vegas Valley

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the Las Vegas Valley and Mojave Desert region until 8 p.m. Friday.

The high temperature for Friday afternoon was 110 degrees. Temperatures are expected to exceed 105 degrees through at least Tuesday.

Residents have been advised to take extra precautions if they go outside in order to prevent heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Those working outside should take rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned areas and should drink plenty of water, according to the warning.

Additionally, the National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Southern Nevada due to a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms. Isolated thunderstorms and strong wind gusts are possible throughout the afternoon and evening.

Thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rain are expected through the weekend and are possible through the middle of the week as well.
