Las Vegas man sentenced to 20 years in mortgage fraud scheme

Jabari L. Marshall, 36, was convicted by a jury in September 2013 of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud for his involvement in a scheme to obtain $35 million in fraudulent mortgage loans.

Chief U.S. District Judge Gloria M. Navarro on Thursday also ordered Marshall to pay roughly $250,000 in restitution and forfeit up to $6.1 million in assets he acquired in the scheme.

Marshall, who has been in federal custody since his arrest in January 2012, has a lengthy criminal history, including two federal fraud convictions in Nevada, prosecutors said.

The scheme, which caused $15 million in losses to lenders, occurred between 2005 and 2007, when Marshall and nine co-conspirators obtained mortgage loans through the use of straw buyers and fraudulent loan applications.
