Michael Morton announces plans for downtown Mexican restaurant

Restaurateur and nightclub operator Michael Morton on Monday announced plans to open an as-yet-unnamed Mexican restaurant at 106 Sixth St. later this year. The currently vacant building is just south of Fremont Street.

Morton, son of Morton’s steakhouse founder Arnie Morton, is perhaps best known for his work at N9NE Group, which owns Rain and Moon nightclubs, N9NE Steakhouse and Nove Italiano, all at the Palms. He most recently spearheaded La Cave at Wynn Las Vegas.

Morton’s new landlord is Tamares Las Vegas Properties LLC, which also owns the Plaza and Las Vegas Club. Tamares’ other downtown tenants include Le Thai, Don’t Tell Mama, Beauty Bar and the under-construction Commonwealth pub.

“Having (Morton’s) experience and success in creating popular dining and entertainment venues is an exciting development for the growing downtown community,” Jonathan Jossel, director of Tamares’ Las Vegas properties, said in a statement. “Tamares is committed to bringing the best partners and concepts to its properties and is confident that Michael’s new restaurant will be a hit with locals and tourists alike.”
