Motorcyclist dies in accident after SUV runs stop sign
A 40-year-old man died after a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and cut off the motorcycle the man was riding Thursday, North Las Vegas police said.
The identity of the dead man was not released.
Sgt. Tim Bedwell said the crash occurred about 3:15 p.m. when the motorcyclist was traveling north on Martin Luther King Boulevard. A driver in a sport utility vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign at Reverend Wilson Avenue.
The sport utility vehicle then cut off the motorcycle, and the motorcyclist swerved to avoid it, Bedwell said. The motorcyclist died at the scene. Bedwell said he was wearing a novelty helmet.
The man driving the sport utility vehicle fled north on Martin Luther King, Bedwell said. Police were searching for the man, who might have been driving a red Mitsubishi that was described as dirty.
The driver and lone occupant of the sport utility vehicle is described as being a light-skinned black or Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s with short hair.
As of 4:15 p.m., Martin Luther King was shut down from Carey to Cheyenne avenues, Bedwell said.
