Pedestrian killed in northeast Las Vegas hit-and-run

Updated May 7, 2021 - 2:09 pm

A woman was killed Wednesday night in a hit-and-run crash in northeast Las Vegas.

Police were called at 7:08 p.m. to an injury crash at North Nellis Boulevard and East Lake Mead Parkway, according to Metropolitan Police Department traffic logs.

Investigators believe that a GMC truck turning right on Nellis hit an elderly woman, who was crossing in the crosswalk, Lt. Bret Ficklin told reporters at the scene.

Ficklin said the truck ran over the woman before driving off.

The truck was described as a newer dark gray GMC crew cab, lifted, with a flatbed trailer carrying 2 ATVs, a toolbox and a white gas can.

Ficklin said people who leave the scene of an injury crash face felony charges.

“If you are involved in a collision you need to remember to stay on scene and take care of your responsibilities,” Ficklin said.

Detectives were still interviewing witnesses and retrieving security footage from nearby businesses, Ficklin said around 9 p.m.

Wednesday night marked the 11th hit and run Metro has investigated this year, compared with two at this time last year. In all of 2020, the department investigated 9 hit-and-runs, Ficklin said.
