Pedestrian struck, killed in western Las Vegas

A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car in western Las Vegas on Sunday night.

Metropolitan Police Department Lt. David Gordon said officers were called to the area of South Durango Drive and West Flamingo Road about 9:25 p.m. in response to reports of a person hit by a car. When they arrived, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver stayed at the scene, Gordon said.

A news release after the investigation said the pedestrian was trying to cross South Durango outside of a marked crosswalk when struck by a 2013 Mercedes traveling south on Durango.

The driver did not show signs of impairment.

The death was the 89th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the name of the deceased after relatives h ave been notified.
