Streak of 70-plus temperatures ends in Las Vegas Valley
As Las Vegas broke another heat record Wednesday, valley residents finally felt relief instead of sunburn.
Wednesday morning’s 69-degree temperature brought an end to a record-breaking 106 consecutive days of 70-degree temperatures or higher, the National Weather Service reported.
The hot stretch began May 28, with 72 days of the nearly four-month stretch hitting 100 degrees or higher, at McCarran International Airport, the weather service’s official station.
The previous record was set in 2007, with 99 consecutive days over 70 degrees.
Wednesday morning was wet as well as cool, with light rain falling across the valley. Rain came down on the valley in the late afternoon but subsided a few hours later. Unlike the last few weekends, Wednesday’s rain was only minor.
