Park Service, BLM announce fee-free days for 2016
The National Park Service will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2016 by offering free admission to all parks on 16 select days in the upcoming year, and the Bureau of Land Management is joining the party.
The Park Service’s slate of fee-free days includes Jan. 18, April 16-24, Aug. 25-28, Sept. 24 and Nov. 11. Entrance fees, commercial tour fees and transportation entrance fees will be waived on those days.
The BLM will be waiving entrance fees next year at places such as Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on Jan. 18, Feb. 13-15, Sept. 24 and Nov. 11.
“Fee-free days make it easier than ever for Americans to connect with their public lands,” said BLM Director Neil Kornze in a written statement.
The Park Service’s website urges people to plan a visit and “enjoy our country’s history and nature.”
The agency manages 409 sites including Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land.
Site-specific standard amenity and day-use fees at BLM recreation sites and areas will be waived for the specified dates. Other fees for such things as overnight camping, cabin rentals, group day use and use of special areas will remain in effect.
