Sandoval travels to Afghanistan

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval is in the middle of a trip to Afghanistan as part of a contingent with the National Governors Association and will talk about his experiences Sunday.

Sandoval will speak to the media from an undisclosed location as a member of the delegation from the association’s Council of Governors. He traveled with Brad Carson, undersecretary of the Army, and other governors to receive a better understanding of the current mission.

It is not Sandoval’s first trip to the region. In August 2011, he traveled to bases in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan, including Kandahar, where he met with members of the Nevada National Guard’s 422nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion.

Speaking about the 2011 trip after his return, Sandoval said as commander in chief of the Nevada National Guard it was important for him to see Nevada’s troops on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also wanted to show his respect and appreciation to Nevada’s soldiers for their service and sacrifice.
