A suspicious church fire in North Las Vegas was being probed by the city’s police and fire departments with the help of federal authorities, a city press release said.

North Las Vegas Fire Department crews responded to the church, at 2030 North Yale Street, near East Lake Mead Boulevard and Interstate 15, at about 2:20 p.m. Thursday, according to the press release. That address is home to the Tabernacle of Faith church, according to Google Maps.

Fire crews arrived to find light smoke from the gable vents of the small, single-story church building. Firefighters “quickly entered the building,” officials said.

Firefighters contained a fire at the exterior wall and prevented it from spreading into the inside of the building or its attic space, the press release said. None of the people who had been inside the church, nor any firefighters, were injured.

The cause of the fire was under investigation and considered suspicious. The release said that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will aid the North Las Vegas fire and police departments in the investigation, which is typical for church fires.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385 -5555 or go to crimestoppersofnv.com.
