Wynn Las Vegas evacuated, but police say Strip hotel is safe

Wynn Las Vegas was briefly evacuated Christmas evening, but Las Vegas police said there was no cause for alarm.

“There is no law enforcement or emergency activity at the hotel,” Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jason Johansson told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Michael Weaver, a Wynn Las Vegas spokesman, said smoke in one of the resort’s kitchens triggered an alarm, prompting an automated guest evacuation announcement.

“When we determined there was no guest risk, the evacuation was ceased and we returned to normal operation,” Weaver said in an emailed statement.

During the evacuation, reports from concerned Wynn guests and employees started swirling on social media. But Johansson, the police lieutenant, said the alarm was cleared without incident.

Clark County firefighters were never dispatched to the resort, Deputy Chief Jeff Buchanan told the Review-Journal.
