It’s probably going to be 111 degrees all weekend

It might be time to head for the hills, Las Vegas.
Temperatures Friday, Saturday and Sunday are forecast to trump the hottest day of 2015 by 3 degrees — topping off at a smoldering 111 degrees.
The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning to begin 10 a.m. Thursday and last until 11 p.m. Monday. An excessive heat warning is issued when temperatures are expected to reach “dangerous levels that will stress the body if precautions are not taken,” the weather service said.
Sunday’s 111 temperature will match the record set for that day in 1954, the weather service said. The hottest record for Friday’s date was set in 1940 when the high was 114 degrees. The hottest record for Saturday’s date was 113 in 1961.
Mount Charleston, however, is expected to peak in the low 80s, Weather Service meteorologist Clay Morgan predicted Wednesday, making its high a few degrees cooler than the valley’s forecast lows which will be in the low- to mid 80s through the weekend.
Wednesday reached 108 degrees, but that wasn’t near the record of 113 that was set in 1940, according to the Weather Service.
Morgan said the hottest part of the day changes seasonally, but he estimated this time of year it is about 3 p.m.
Although it might not feel like it, the valley is a ways away from the June record of 117 degrees, first set in 1942, and tied most recently in 2013.
Morgan said it is ideal to stay inside during peak hours, but offered several tips, including staying away from alcoholic and caffeinated beverages; wearing lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing; and wearing a shirt, hat and sunscreen at all times.
