Las Vegas sets record for warmest low June temperature Friday, nears record high

Las Vegas set a record for the warmest low June temperature on Friday at 91 degrees, National Weather Service said.

If not for mostly cloudy skies, it might also have broken a record for the hottest high temperature, too.

Valley temperatures reached a sizzling 112 degrees Friday afternoon at McCarran International Airport, meteorologist Andrew Gorelow said. Friday’s mark was 10 degrees above the average June 26 temperature of 102 degrees, and just two degrees below the record of 114.

Without the clouds, Gorelow said, temperatures could have reached 115.

“They definitely helped make it a little cooler,” Gorelow said.

The valley was placed under an excessive heat warning on Thursday, set to last through Saturday.

Weekend temperatures will again hover around near-record highs, Gorelow said. Saturday highs could reach 112 and Sunday will hit 110.

Monday and Tuesday’s highs will drop just slightly, Gorelow said, with temperatures predicted to be at 109 and 108 degrees, respectively.
