Las Vegas Valley still under air quality advisory because of wildfires
An extra orange hue made for a nice sunrise Thursday morning, but it wasn’t so good for air quality.
The color can be credited to smoke from California wildfires, which prompted an extended quality advisory for Southern Nevada.
Clark County’s Department of Air Quality advisory will continue through Friday, when the National Weather Service expects winds to drive the haze out of the Las Vegas Valley.
The Department of Air Quality advises Las Vegans to limit outdoor activities, to carpool or ride a bicycle when possible, and to properly maintain your vehicles. Drivers also should fill up gas tanks after sunset and avoid spilling gasoline.
But smoke, unlike clouds, doesn’t shield the valley from heat. The high temperature should reach a toasty 106 degrees, meteorologist Chris Stachelski said.
Slight relief should arrive Friday, when highs are expected to drop to 103 or 104, Stachelski said.
Moisture might show up early next week when highs dip to 101, with a chance for showers and thunderstorms for Tuesday, Stachelski said. Overnight temperatures beginning tonight through next week should drop to the low 80s.
