Valley’s Savannah Decker, Tech’s Eri Leong top girls bowling state qualifiers

Valley High School’s Savannah Decker rolled a 645 series to finish in first place in the Class 4A girls bowling individual tournament qualifying Wednesday at the Gold Coast Bowling Center.

Decker, who placed sixth at last year’s state tournament, finished four pins ahead of Sierra Vista’s Vanessa Fuzie, last year’s state runner-up.

The top six qualifiers advance to the final at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Gold Coast.

Durango’s Jazlyn Jenkins (618) was third, followed by Basic’s Olivia Lampkin (580) and Desert Oasis’ Jazmyne Compehos (547).

Arbor View’s Makenzie Derezotes grabbed the sixth and final qualifying spot with a 535 series, just one pin better than Coronado’s Alexis Safley and Basic’s Jazelle Lampkin.

Leong leads Class 3A qualifiers

Defending state champion Eri Leong of Tech easily outdistanced the field in the Class 3A qualifying, rolling a 579 series.

Tech’s Angelica Rosado finished second with a 498 series.

Rounding out the top six and joining Leong and Rosado in Friday’s final were: Mojave’s Maria Richardson (489), Tech’s Kristina Flores (480), Chaparral’s Losi Brown (467) and Western’s Justyce McCoy (466).
