CROSS COUNTRY: Coronado girls win cluster meet at Foothill

Coronado’s girls cross country team had six of the top nine finishers to narrowly win a cluster meet at Foothill on Tuesday.

The Cougars had 28 points to edge second-place Foothill (29). Liberty was third with 91.

Foothill’s Karina Haymore won the 2.5-mile race in 15 minutes, 29.4 seconds, and teammate Erica Williams was second in 16:05.

Coronado runners took six of the next seven spots, led by Danielle Greene, who was third in 16:12.6.

Bulldogs edge Palo Verde in five-team meet

At Floyd Lamb Park, Kayla Roberts won a 3-mile race in 18:03.2 to lead Centennial to the team victory with 28 points.

Palo Verde was second with 29, and Arbor View was third with 87.

Palo Verde’s Emma Wahlenmaier placed second individually at 18:32.1, with Centennial’s Alexis Gourrier third (18:38.1).

The Panthers took the next four spots, followed by five Centennial runners.

Braxton, Bulldogs win meet

At Floyd Lamb Park, Dajour Braxton and Braedon Tarone took the top two spots to lead Centennial to victory in a five-team meet.

Braxton dominated the field, winning the 3-mile race in 15:13.5. Tarone was second in 17:04.9, followed by Palo Verde’s Christian Castellanos (17:10.2) and Centennial’s Garrett Stagner (17:32.6).

Centennial finished with 26 points to top second-place Palo Verde (34). Arbor View was third at 86.

Saltz, Cougars win eight-team meet

At Foothill, Sterling Saltz won a 2.5-mile race in 13:41.3 to lead Coronado to victory in an eight-team meet.

The Cougars had a team score of 37. Las Vegas was second with 58, followed by Foothill with 61 and Liberty with 70.

Las Vegas’ Miguel Ramirez was second in 13:46.2. Liberty’s Chuckie Custer took third in 13:55.4.
