Moapa Valley dominates Pirate Invitational

Preston Humes led a sweep of the top three places Saturday as Moapa Valley’s boys cross country team easily won its own Pirate Invitational in Overton.

Humes completed the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes, 58.8 seconds. He was followed by teammates Bryton Dorsey (18:14.3) and Jerrick Stastny (19:03.5).

Virgin Valley’s Victor Colmenero took fourth in 19:33.6. White Pine’s Mark Porter was fifth in 19:53.2.

Moapa Valley breezed to the team title with 16 points. Coral Academy was second with 70. Sky Pointe finished third with 74, followed by American Prep (83) and Founders Academy (107).

In the girls race, Emma Humes and Shelby Olson ran away from the field and helped Moapa Valley to another dominant win.

Emma Humes won the girls race in 21:44.5. Olson was second in 22:03.

White Pine’s Odessa Stewart was third in 23:40. Virgin Valley’s Julia Ramirez was fourth in 23:48.7, and Sky Pointe’s Kyra Pickens placed fifth in 24:02.6.

Moapa Valley won the team title with 18 points. Coral Academy (57) held off Sky Pointe (63) for second.
