NOTES: Tech’s Cordova, Foothill’s Leedy honored by track club

The Las Vegas Track Club honored Tech’s Eduardo Cordova and Foothill’s Leah Leedy as its high school runners of the year at a banquet on Saturday.

The track club also presented more than $10,000 in scholarship money to 10 graduating seniors.

Centennial’s Caitlin Kodweis, Tech’s Ana Mata and Boulder City’s Sara Richner got the top awards, each receiving $2,000.

Faith Lutheran’s Keely Bakken and Sierra Vista’s Mitchell Paul each received $1,000. Palo Verde’s Daniel Wicks and Zack Smith, Tech’s Chris Rising and Cordova and Pahrump Valley’s McKenzie Dean each received $500.

Bakken, Leedy, Boulder City’s Matt Lundgren, Coronado’s Michaelanne Laurent and Centennial’s Nathan Williams were honored as the newest members of the Southern Nevada Cross Country Hall of Fame.

MILK MUSTACHE —
Palo Verde tennis standout Brandon Parker was awarded the Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache Athlete of the Year Award.

The award provides $7,500 college scholarships to 25 outstanding high school athletes each year. Those 25 were selected from nearly 55,000 applicants.

FOOTBALL HONORS —
The Las Vegas chapter of the National Football Foundation recently awarded scholarships to area football players.

Green Valley’s Skyler Holloway received the Bill Ireland award and a $2,500 scholarship.

Clark’s Satinderpreet Singh got the Angelo Collis award and a $1,000 scholarship. Del Sol’s Tayiib Dauda got the Bill Morris award and a $1,000 scholarship, and Desert Pines’ Anthony Ruiz received the Tom Weisner Award and a $1,000 scholarship.

Arbor View’s Nathaniel Collins, Basic’s William Weathers, Canyon Springs’ Trevor Davis, Centennial’s William Smith, Cimarron-Memorial’s Bryan Sherman, Durango’s Romel Maxwell, Faith Lutheran’s John Kim, Las Vegas’ Madison Hales, Legacy’s Deldren Wright, Mojave’s Joshua Cabrera, Palo Verde’s David Castro, Rancho’s Thomas McAllister, Shadow Ridge’s Miguel Martinez and Valley’s Kenneth Herd each received $500 scholarships.
