Centennial runner Karina Haymore earns Female Athlete of the Year
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Karina Haymore, Centennial
The junior won just two cross-country meets all season but saved her best for the biggest event. Haymore won the Division I state meet, finishing the 3.1-mile race in 19:39 and helping the Bulldogs to their second-straight state crown.
Haymore won the state meet by 13 seconds. She finished second in four meets during the season.
Haymore followed that up with an impressive track season, where she posted the state’s fastest times in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs. She won the Division I state title in the 800 in dominating fashion, setting a meet record of 2 minutes, 9.8 seconds and beating the nearest opponent by better than 6 seconds. She also won the 1,600 in 5:08.7 and was third in the 400 in helping the Bulldogs to their sixth consecutive state title.
