FLAG FOOTBALL: Katy Orellana, Tech hand Virgin Valley first league loss
Katy Orellana threw a go-ahead 50-yard touchdown pass to Avery Rayos with 30 seconds remaining Monday to lead Tech’s flag football team to a 14-7 victory over host Virgin Valley.
Orellana, who completed 10 of 18 passes for 175 yards, also had rushing TD for Tech, which handed the Bulldogs their first Class 3A Sunrise League loss of the season.
Rayos finished with five catches for 105 yards, and Haley Makue-Vasconcello had eight carries for 60 yards for the Roadrunners.
Kallie Graves was 12-for-26 passing for 219 yards and a 30-yard TD to Makenzie Leishman for Virgin Valley.
Durango 22, Bonanza 21 — At Durango, the Trailblazers converted a go-ahead two-point conversion late in the second half to defeat the Bengals.
Kiana-Capri Wilcox threw the 10-yard conversion to Nayeli Silva-Kahalewai for Durango, which trailed 13-0 at the half.
Wilcox ran for 127 yards and a score and caught a 49-yard TD pass, and Silva-Kahalewai finished with 15 carries for 158 yards and a TD for the Trailblazers.
Del Sol 20, Chaparral 12 — At Chaparral, Xolani Frazier threw for 130 yards and two touchdowns to help the Dragons down the Cowboys.
Noa Bowie and Johana Galvan each had receiving touchdowns, and Sierra Brooks added a 10-yard TD for Del Sol, which led 14-6 at halftime.
Alyssa Porras threw for 105 yards and two touchdowns for Chaparral.
Naja Muhammad had 57 yards receiving and a TD, and Angelica Rivera had 60 yards receiving and a score for the Cowboys. Rivera also led the defense with 12 tackles.
Rancho 25, Canyon Springs 13 — At Canyon Springs, Katerina Anthony led the team with 191 all-purpose yards and a rushing touchdown, and the Rams stormed to an 18-0 halftime lead before holding off the Pioneers.
Anthony completed 9 of 11 passes for 123 yards and had 68 rushing yards.
Donnacia McCullough, Talaya Williams and Christina Parada each scored a rushing touchdown for Rancho.
Desert Oasis 46, Spring Valley 6 — At Spring Valley, Makayla Rickard threw three touchdown passes as the Diamondbacks routed the Grizzlies.
Leiana Macusi caught two touchdowns and rushed for a score, and Cannei Cunningham added a TD reception for Desert Oasis. Izriah Hodson and LillyAna Ghanem each scored a rushing touchdown for the Diamondbacks, who led 21-6 at halftime.
Savannah Villanueva had a rushing touchdown for Spring Valley.
Sierra Vista 35, Clark 6 — At Sierra Vista, Kelsey Rodriguez had two interceptions in the Mountain Lions’ win over the Chargers.
Sierra Vista led 21-0 at halftime.
T’Keyah Bannister threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Czarina Gazard for Clark’s lone score.
Boulder City 27, Moapa Valley 0 — At Overton, the Eagles routed the the Pirates.
