Roundup: Tiarra Del Rosario’s interception clinches Cimarron win
Cimarron-Memorial’s Tiarra Del Rosario intercepted a pass with 1:55 to play to help seal a 20-19 flag football victory over host Sierra Vista on Monday.
Del Rosario threw three first-half touchdown passes, but was intercepted twice, and the Mountain Lions returned one for a touchdown with 14 seconds to go in the first half, cutting the Spartans’ lead to 20-13.
Sierra Vista scored with about nine minutes to play, but was stopped on the 1-point conversion attempt, and Cimarron retained its one-point lead.
After Del Rosario’s interception, the Spartans got a first down and were able to run out the clock.
Del Rosario completed 9 of 24 passes for 179 yards. She also recorded five tackles.
Samantha Silva had four catches for 90 yards and two TDs for Cimarron, and teammate Zeccia Halton had three catches for 70 yards and a score.
Elizabeth Asoau led the Spartans with seven tackles.
Palo Verde 7, Durango 0 — At Palo Verde, Betsy Bellinger’s second interception of the game came with five seconds left on the clock to seal the Panthers’ victory over the Trailblazers.
Mya Boykin scored on a 15-yard rush for Palo Verde with 1:35 remaining in the game.
Maiya Baker also had two interceptions for the Panthers.
Jaylen Burson had 10 tackles and an interception for Durango.
Green Valley 39, Desert Oasis 21 — At Green Valley, Jennifer Haberstock threw three touchdown passes as the Gators defeated the Diamondbacks.
Green Valley’s Olivia McClain, Brooke Hijar and Isabel Madrid each had a touchdown reception. Christina Mayberry added had a rushing touchdown, and Madrid and Anna Marie Arce each returned an interception for a score for the Gators.
Desert Oasis’ Canei Cunningham threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Aniyah Reed, and Georgia Sykes had a 4-yard TD reception from Makayla Rickard.
Rickard had a rushing touchdown for the Diamondbacks.
Shadow Ridge 31, Desert Pines 6 — At Shadow Ridge, Jordan Ford had three rushing touchdowns as she led the Mustangs to a victory over the Jaguars.
Ford rushed for 188 yards on 12 carries.
Shadow Ride’s Dayvian Diaz added 63 rushing yards and two TDs. Sonia Triana also had two sacks for the Mustangs.
Legacy 24, Mojave 8 — At Legacy, Jalyn Joule completed 17 of 24 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Longhorns over the Rattlers.
Legacy’s Mikaela Nunez had four catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns, and teammate Allanah Subira had six catches for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
Kennedy Williams led the Legacy defense with two interceptions.
Coronado 46, Sunrise Mountain 6 — At Sunrise Mountain, Caitlin Shannon had a hand in five touchdowns as the Cougars routed the Miners.
Shannon rushed for 84 yards and three TDs, and completed 10 of 16 passes for 76 yards and two scores for Coronado.
Amanda Burt rushed for 111 yards on 13 carries for Coronado, and Marissa Pollak rushed for 97 yards and a TD on eight carries.
Sydnee Hanson had a 10-yard rushing touchdown, and Pollak and Jensen Boman each caught a touchdown pass for the Cougars.
Rancho 18, Spring Valley 6 — At Rancho, the Rams took a 12-0 lead at the half and held off the Grizzlies.
