BASEBALL: Bengals down Mountain Lions in high-scoring affair

Spencer Faught went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs on Friday as Bonanza’s baseball team outslugged visiting Sierra Vista for a 15-11 win.

Hunter Junge went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Bengals, who held off a late Sierra Vista rally. Teammate Alec Taft went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs.

Nolan Kingham and Dylan White each doubled for the Mountain Lions.

Bishop Gorman 13, Centennial 0 — At Gorman, Drew Newson went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs to help the Gaels cruise past the Bulldogs in five innings.

Matt Hudgins was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to help Gorman, which took control with a nine-run third inning. Matt Judd and Nick Gates also homered for the Gaels.

Rancho 11, Palo Verde 1 — At Palo Verde, Josh Mill fired a two-hitter to lead the Rams to a five-inning win.

Mill struck out six and walked two.

Dylan Pletsch doubled twice, and David Modler had a double and a single for Rancho. Jose Verdugo, Cody Suarez and Kavion Kealoha each added two singles for Rancho.

Cimarron-Memorial 19, Durango 2 — At Cimarron, Niko Decolati was 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs to help the Spatans to the five-inning win.

Tyler Giovinco was 3-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs, and Miquel Robinson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs for Cimarron.

Trevor Lippard was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI for the Spartans.

Anthony Parry had a two-run homer in the top of the first for Durango.

Noah Parker went the distance, allowing two hits and striking out six, to get the win.

Shadow Ridge 13, Mojave 1 — At Mojave, Grant Mohn was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs to help the Mustangs to the five-inning win over the Rattlers.

Jakob Chambers was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs, and Francisco Robles went 1-for-1 with a homer and two RBIs for Shadow Ridge, which got two hits and two RBIs from Brady Hoskins.

Tyler Ledgister was 2-for-2 with a run for Mojave.

Cheyenne 16, Sunrise Mountain 2 — At Sunrise Mountain, Joe Rose went 3-for-4 with a home run to help the Desert Shields rout the Miners in five innings.

Brian Corder went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs for Cheyenne, and teammate Terry Oechslin added a homer.

Josh Brown was 2-for-3 with a triple to lead Sunrise Mountain.

Boulder City 10, Del Sol 8 — At Boulder City, Austin Wishard was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs to lead the Eagles over the Dragons.

Peyton Koopman was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Colton Bosnos and Preston Van Diest each added two hits and two runs for Boulder City, which won despite walking 14 Del Sol batters.

Matt Styck was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Dragons, and teammate Nick Trujillo had three RBIs.

Pahrump Valley 13, Desert Pines 7 — At Desert Pines, Josh Mortensen struck out five in four innings to earn the win and was 3-for-5 with a double to lift the Trojans over the Jaguars.

Chad Uyeno and Dylan Ault each had a solo home run for Pahrump, and teammate Cristian Balding went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Desert Pines’ Iquan Corsey was 4-for-4 with home run and a double.

Desert Oasis 9, Eldorado 5 — At Eldorado, Bryson Stott went 3-for-3 with three doubles and two RBIs to lead the Diamondbacks over the Sundevils.

Chris Van Kuren and Brett Brocoff each went 2-for-3 for Desert Oasis.

Lincoln County 10-12, The Meadows 9-2 — At Panaca, Derek Shumway went 2-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs in the opener, and Colton Johnson struck out eight in five innings in the second game as the Lynx swept the Mustangs to claim sole possession of first place in the Division III Southern League.

Shumway hit a go-ahead, two-run double as Lincoln County rallied from a 7-4 hole with five runs in the fifth inning of the opener. Paul Boag was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Lynx in the first game.

Drake Gordon, Austin Neal and Adam Martinez went 2-for-4 for the Mustangs in the opener.

Zach Shinkle was 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and two RBIs in the nightcap for Lincoln County. Mike Wood and Preston Robbins each added two hits for the Lynx.

Indian Springs 15, Sandy Valley 14 — At Indian Springs, Nino Alvarez singled in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Thunderbirds over the Sidewinders.

Mason Hamlin had two doubles to help Indian Springs’ offense.

The Thunderbirds won the nightcap by forfeit.

Needles 15-15, Calvary Chapel 0-0 — At Calvary Chapel, Aidan Shaver threw a no-hitter over five innings in the nightcap as the Mustangs completed a doubleheader sweep of the Lions.

Shaver fanned six and walked one and went 2-for-4. William Dunn also went 2-for-4 in the Mustangs win.

Trenton Poe-Evans allowed two hits over four innings to get the win in the first game.

Jason Neverov went 4-for-4 with a double to lead the Mustangs at the plate in the opener, and teammate Mason Paget was 2-for-2.

Pahranagat Valley 12, Virgin Valley 5 — At Mesquite, Ike Taylor had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Panthers over the Bulldogs.

Wade Leavitt added three hits, and Jake Carter and Shawn Wadsworth each drove in two runs for Pahranagat Valley, which led 12-1 before allowing four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
