BASEBALL: Brett Brocoff, Noah Stenger no-hit Bonanza
Brett Brocoff and Noah Stenger combined on a no-hitter Monday as the Desert Oasis baseball team earned a 9-0 road win over Bonanza.
Brocoff struck out 15 and walked one in six hitless innings. Stenger struck out two in the seventh.
The Bengals’ only baserunner came when Nick DeSoto walked to lead off the bottom of the sixth.
Brocoff also went 3-for-4 with three doubles for the Diamondbacks. Parker Schmidt was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Kyle Fuentes went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Desert Oasis.
Green Valley 5, Rancho 1 — At Green Valley, Garrett Nelson was 2-for-3 with two triples, a run and an RBI to lead the Gators past the Rams to clinch the Class 4A Sunrise League title.
Gavin Amelburu was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Green Valley (23-5), which improved to 18-1 in the league.
Frankie Fitzgerald allowed a run on eight hits in six innings to get the win. He struck out six with four walks.
Angel Walker went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for Rancho. Jimmy Gamboa struck out nine for the Rams (19-5, 15-4).
Bishop Gorman 6, Spring Valley 3 — At Gorman, Austin Wells hit a two-run homer to highlight a three-run first inning and the Gaels held off the Grizzlies.
Nick Israel also had two RBIs for Gorman, which added three runs in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead.
Jarrod Billig allowed one earned run in 6⅔ innings to get the win. He struck out eight with one walk.
John Gaughan came on and struck out Nick Rupp with a runner at second base to end the game and earn a save.
Kade Higgins was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Jaxson Otis went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Spring Valley. Humberto Maldonado added two hits for the Grizzlies.
Durango 10, Sierra Vista 9 — At Durango, Cameron Gallegos singled home Josh Barry with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Trailblazers the victory over the Mountain Lions.
Gallegos was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Duke Pahukoa went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs, and Richard Mascarenas was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run for Durango.
Cooper Kitrel went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and a run to lead Sierra Vista. His two-out, two-run triple in the top of the seventh tied the game at 9.
Moapa Valley 11, Tech 8 — At Tech, Anthony Cornwall went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Pirates past the Roadrunners.
Dayton Wolfley doubled and drove in two runs, Tyler Peterson tripled and drove in a run, and Luke Bennett doubled for Moapa Valley, which scored nine runs in the first inning.
Jayce Otis and Gabe Kermode each doubled for the Roadrunners.
Las Vegas 5, Silverado 3 — At Las Vegas, Trey Chauncey struck out seven over five innings to lead the Wildcats past the Skyhawks.
Nathan Freimuth and David Campbell each had two hits for Las Vegas, which led 3-0 after two innings.
Dax Fellows tripled for Silverado, and teammates Caleb Hubbard and Payton Ballard each had two hits.
Basic 12, Foothill 2 — At Basic, Jack Wold was 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, three runs and five RBIs to power the Wolves to a five-inning win over the Falcons.
Garrett Giles was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, and Trace Evans went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run for Basic.
Christian Rivero and John Howard Bobo each went 2-for-3 for the Wolves. Rivero scored three runs, and Bobo scored twice.
C.J. Dornak pitched four scoreless innings to get the victory. He allowed two hits and struck out five.
Coronado 9, Liberty 3 — At Liberty, Landen Rowland tripled and drove in a run to lead the Cougars past the Patriots.
Garret Lake and Taylor Darden each doubled for Coronado, which scored five runs in the third inning.
Ryan Murphy tossed five scoreless innings to pick up the win. He allowed three hits and fanned one.
Ethan Safier doubled for the Patriots.
Virgin Valley 11, Chaparral 2 — At Mesquite, Dillan Fuqua was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and four RBIs to lead the Bulldogs past the Cowboys.
Cade Anderson went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs for Virgin Valley, which scored four runs in the bottom of the first.
Jayden Perkins was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Virgin Valley.
Connor Jarvis went 2-for-4 with a run for Chaparral.
Canyon Springs 11, Valley 1 — At Canyon Springs, Aiden Moriarty allowed one run on five hits and fanned seven in six innings to lead the Pioneers past the Vikings.
Giovani Benuto had a triple and three RBIs to lead the Pioneers’ offense. Quentin Barton went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for Canyon Springs, which scored eight runs in the third inning.
Isaiah Brown went 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI, and Trevor Berkemeyer went 1-for-3 with a double for the Pioneers.
Boulder City 16, Del Sol 0 — At Del Sol, Rhett Armstrong fired a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two runs as the Eagles defeated the Dragons in four innings.
Anthony Pacifico went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs for Boulder City, and Teddy Lobkowicz and Kody Rahr each went 2-for-2 for the Eagles.
Lobkowicz had a double, four runs and an RBI, and Rahr tripled, scored a run and drove in three.
The Meadows 7, Lake Mead 4 — At The Meadows, Justin Tanaka went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Mustangs past the Eagles.
Sam Kaplan allowed four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts to pick up the win.
Logan Sullivan doubled for the Eagles, and Mark Costelo went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
