BASEBALL: Caputo, Gators move into first place tie with win over Coronado

Justin Caputo threw a three-hitter Friday to help Green Valley’s baseball team move into a tie for first place in the Division I Sunrise League by defeating visiting Coronado, 5-2.

Caputo walked one and struck out five.

Jake Leonard was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Gators, who joined Coronado, Basic, Liberty and Silverado atop the league.

Noah Hemphill was 2-for-3 with a double and a run for the Cougars.

Basic 3, Foothill 0 — At Basic, C.J. Dornak and Trever Berg combined on a four-hit shutout as the Wolves blanked the Falcons.

Dornak allowed three hits and and fanned three over five innings to earn the win. Berg allowed one hit over the final two innings to pick up the save.

Trent Bixby, who was 1-for-2, provided the big blow with a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Roger Riley added an RBI in the fifth.

Riley and Christian Rivero each went 2-for-3 for Basic.

Bonanza 6, Arbor View 3 — At Bonanza, Chris Dunn and Danny Ruiz hit back-to-back homers in the third inning to help the Bengals top the Aggies.

Dunn’s three-run homer gave Bonanza a 4-2 lead, and Ruiz followed with a solo shot.

Byron Naftzger went the distance, striking out eight, to get the win. He allowed 11 hits and walked two.

Hilario Gomez-Soto went 2-for-2 with a double, run and RBI for Bonanza.

Nick Quintana and Ryan McHale each had a solo home run for Arbor View.

Del Sol 9, Mojave 6 — At Del Sol, Jorge Costa went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs as the Dragons topped the Rattlers.

Aaron Squires, who earned the save after three innings of relief, had a triple and two RBIs, and winning pitcher Zach Trujillo also tripled and had an RBI for Del Sol.

Otto Hernandez was 2-for-3 with a double for Mojave.

Canyon Springs 10, Eldorado 6 — At Canyon Springs, winning pitcher Johnny Flores was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to spark the Pioneers over the Sundevils.

Flores went the distance, allowing eight hits and three earned runs. He struck out eight and walked three.

Giovani Benuto went 1-for-3 and drove in two runs on an inside-the-park home run. Trevor Berkemeyer tripled and drove in two runs for the Pioneers.

Gustavo Hernandez also doubled and drove in a run for Canyon Springs.

Julio Rodarte went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, and Ian Reber tripled for the Sundevils.

Spring Valley 10, Tech 4 — At Spring Valley, Jaxson Otis went 4-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs to lead the Grizzlies past the Roadrunners.

Otis also picked up the win in relief of starter Jack Sellinger, who pitched 3 1/3 innings and struck out nine.

Bryce Bullock went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Humberto Maldonado went 1-for-4 with two RBIs for the Grizzlies.

Jonathen Bakken also doubled for Spring Valley.

Trevor Kephart tripled and drove in two runs for the Roadrunners.

Liberty 11, Las Vegas 1 — At Liberty, Jacob Klein threw a one-hitter and drove in three runs to lead the Patriots over the Wildcats in five innings.

Omar Ortiz hit 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for Liberty.

Kevin Clark was 3-for-3 with a triple, Jacob Rogers went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Jayzen Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two runs for the Patriots.

Pahrump Valley 11, Sunrise Mountain 1 — At Pahrump, Parker Hart doubled, tripled and drove in four runs as the Trojans defeated the Miners in five innings.

Kyle Kral went the distance, allowing an unearned run on six hits, to get the win. He struck out eight with one walk.

Garret Lucas had two doubles and a RBI, Shelton Cajudoy went 2-for-3 with a RBI, and Drew Walker was 2-for-4 with a RBI for Pahrump.

Brian Ruiz doubled and drove in a run for Sunrise Mountain.

Chaparral 12, Clark 1 — At Clark, Talon Greene was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Cowboys over the Chargers.

Mark O’Connor was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs, and Connor Jarvis scored twice for Chaparral.

Garrett Woodford went 2-for-3 with two doubles for Clark.

Silverado 18, Valley 1 — At Valley, Payton Ballard went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and three RBIs as the Skyhawks routed the Vikings in five innings.

James Skelly was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Silverado.

Kevin Pindel, Samuel Pope and Brenden Gibbons combined on a one-hitter for Silverado. Pindel threw three hitless innings and struck out six.

Lincoln County 17-14, Calvary Chapel 0-1 — At Panaca, Kevin Mathews tossed a no-hitter in the nightcap as the Lynx swept a pair of five-inning games from the Lions.

Mathews walked two and struck out six.

Mike Wood had three hits and an RBI, and Nick Vincent added two hits and three RBIs for Lincoln County in the finale.

In the opener, Hunter Wilkin threw a two-hitter and struck out six for Lincoln County.

Vincent had three hits and three RBIs, and Wilkin added two hits for the Lynx, who got four RBIs from McClain O’Connor.

Agassi Prep at Laughlin — The host Cougars won a pair of games by forfeit.
