BASEBALL: Charlton, Burdett help Mountain Lions edge Grizzlies

Tyler Charlton and Tyler Burdett combined on a two-hitter Wednesday to lead Sierra Vista’s baseball team to a 2-1 win over visiting Spring Valley.

Caeden Marin had an RBI triple and scored on Cole Crosby’s ground out as the Mountain Lions took a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Nolan Kingham had two hits, including a double, for Sierra Vista.

Durango 4, Palo Verde 3 — At Durango, pinch-runner Kris Moranzoni scored the winning run on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Trailblazers edged the Panthers.

Jordan Borlase drew a one-out walk in the eighth and was lifted for Moranzoni, who stole second, then stole third with two outs.

Scott Martinez went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Durango.

Yodai Nakamura was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Palo Verde.

Faith Lutheran 11, Cheyenne 1 — At Faith Lutheran, Brenden Meyer threw a five-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks as the Crusaders clinched the Sunset League title with a five-inning win over the Desert Shields.

Andrew Hudgins went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI, and Dakota Greenwalt and Erich Uelmen each supplied two hits and two RBIs for Faith Lutheran, which used an eight-run sixth inning to close it out.

Lamon Harvey had a single, a double and an RBI for Cheyenne.

Mojave 6, Clark 5 — At Mojave, Chase Anderson tripled home the tying run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, then scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball as the Rattlers rallied from a 5-2 deficit to top the Chargers.

Ryan Lawrence was 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Mojave.

Justin Almanzan was 2-for-3 with two runs, and Wyatt Blackwell had two hits, including a double, and a run for Clark.

Western 4, Pahrump Valley 2 — At Pahrump, Angel Hernandez singled home the go-ahead run in the fifth inning, and the Warriors went on to beat the Trojans.

Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a double for Western, which trailed 2-0 after one inning.

Winning pitcher Josh Yocum struck out eight in five innings.

Las Vegas 7, Rancho 4 — At Las Vegas, Jose Sanchez had two hits, two RBIs and a run, and the Wildcats used a five-run third inning to down the Rams.

Jerome Byndloss and Nolan Cassell combined on a five-hitter, and Cassell had a two-run single for Las Vegas.

Rancho’s Jose Verdugo finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Bryce Harrell and Keifer McLendon each had two hits for the Rams.

Green Valley 17, Canyon Springs 0 — At Canyon Springs, Derrick Harmon, Kyle Haigwood and Brett Haney combined on a five-inning no-hitter as the Gators clinched at least a share of the Northeast League title by routing the Pioneers.

Harmon struck out six and walked one in three innings.

Anthony Hatch went 3-for-4 with a double, and Christian Hall was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and three RBIs for Green Valley. Jarod Penniman was 2-for-3 with two doubles, and Michael Hillcoat was 2-for-2 with a double for the Gators.

Silverado 14, Valley 4 — At Silverado, Dillon Johnson and David Kuzma each went 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead the Skyhawks to a five-inning rout of the Vikings.

Hunter Welch and Dylan Brand each went 3-for-4 with a double for Silverado.

Kevin Rocha was 2-for-3 with two runs for Valley.
