BASEBALL: Freshman pitcher lifts Sundevils over Aggies
Freshman Jordan Eldred threw a five-hitter on Wednesday to lead Eldorado’s baseball team to a 3-1 home win over Arbor View.
Eldred struck out five and hit a batter, throwing just 78 pitches.
The Sundevils scored twice in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie. Jason DiMaria brought home the go-ahead run with a grounder to second.
DiMaria finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Canyon Springs 13, Western 0 — At Canyon Springs, Alex Molina fired a five-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and hit a triple as the Pioneers routed the Warriors.
Devonte Hardge doubled and drove in two runs, and Erick Espinosa was 2-for-2 with three RBIs for Canyon Springs.
Cheyenne 8, Desert Pines 7 — At Cheyenne, Scott Flinn stole home in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Desert Shields the win over the Jaguars.
Flinn went 5-for-5 with a double, and Orestes Marquetti was 4-for-4 with a double for Cheyenne.
Iquan Corsey went 3-for-5 with a double for Desert Pines.
Palo Verde 2, Foothill 0 — At Palo Verde, Brad Steiner threw a five-hitter and struck out eight to lead the Panthers over the Falcons.
Palo Verde took the lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Dan Heller. The Panthers added a run in the fifth when Michael Spada led off with a double and scored on a double-play ball.
Spada was 2-for-3.
Sierra Vista 6, Cimarron-Memorial 3 — At Sierra Vista, the Mountain Lions scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally and defeat the Spartans.
Four walks and a balk to start the inning tied the game at 3-3, and Chandler Smith’s two-run double gave Sierra Vista a 5-3 lead.
Nolan Kingham went the distance to earn the win, scattering eight hits and striking out five. He added an RBI double in the first inning.
Trevor Lippard was 3-for-3 for Cimarron.
Chaparral 3, Del Sol 0 — At Chaparral, Tommy Crone fired a three-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts and also hit a double to help the Cowboys beat the Dragons.
Crone gave up three singles and walked one.
Luis Giro supplied a run-scoring triple and scored twice for Chaparral.
Rancho 7, Desert Oasis 5 — At Rancho, Jose Verdugo slugged a two-run homer and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh inning to earn the save, as the Rams edged the Diamondbacks.
Verdugo forced a come-backer and fanned the final two hitters to end the Desert Oasis threat.
Cody Suarez and Dylan Pletsch each supplied two hits for Rancho. Andrew Wieger struck out nine in five innings to get the win.
Bryson Stott was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Diamondbacks, who got a double from Keanu Van Kuren.
Centennial 9, Coronado 6 — At Centennial, Kyle Horton went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and the Bulldogs used a five-run fifth inning to knock off the Cougars.
Cooper Powell went 3-for-4 with an RBI and pitched into the sixth inning to earn the victory.
Jacob Klein was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and two RBIs for the Cougars. Teammate Jackson Cofer tripled and finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Bonanza 10, Las Vegas 2 — At Las Vegas, Hunter Junge, Chris Dunn, Andre Isaraq and Alec Taft each supplied two hits to propel the Bengals to victory over the Wildcats.
Isaraq had three RBIs, and Dunn and Junge each had one RBI for Bonanza. Cruz Nevaraz allowed two runs in six innings to get the win.
Valley 7, Clark 3 — At Clark, Omar Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and the Vikings used a six-run second inning to top the Chargers.
Trevor Lavenburg was 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Alonso Osorio-Kalawe was 1-for-3 with a double for Valley.
Spring Valley 10, Silverado 0 — At Spring Valley, Jake Sellinger went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, and Bryce Bullock was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI as the Grizzlies blanked the Skyhawks in six innings.
Jaxson Otis supplied a double, and starting pitcher Michael Macove struck out four, combining with Bullock and Zane Drachler on the shutout.
