BASEBALL: Rancho outslugs Liberty

Chayse Baker led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a triple and scored the winning run one out later on a single by Anthony Guzman as Rancho’s baseball team outlasted visiting Liberty 13-12 on Thursday.

Rancho led 7-1 after four innings before the offenses erupted.

Liberty scored four times in the fifth and five in the sixth to take a 10-9 lead.

Rancho’s Angel Walker belted a three-run home run in the sixth to put the Rams up, 12-10.

The Patriots struck back with two runs and left the bases loaded in the seventh.

Baker led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple into the gap in left-center field. After a groundout, Guzman laced a ball to the warning track in right field to end the game.

Walker finished 2-for-3 with the home run, a double, two runs and five RBIs. Baker was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double, and Guzman was 3-for-5 for Rancho.

Joey Walls and Jimmy Gamboa each added two hits for the Rams.

Jake Rogers was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, and Justin Lutes went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Liberty, which dropped out of a tie for first place in the Division I Sunrise League with the loss.

Basic 8, Eldorado 2 — At Eldorado, Ethen Ryan and Montana Gomez combined on a four-hitter as the Wolves downed the Sundevils.

Jack Wold was 2-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs, and Nick Thompson went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs for Basic.

Trevor Swain finished 3-for-3 with a triple, a walk and two RBIs to lead Eldorado.

Silverado 3, Las Vegas 1 — At Las Vegas, Kevin Pindel threw a three-hitter to lead the Skyhawks past the Wildcats.

Pindel allowed one run and fanned two.

Chase Cortez went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three runs to lead the Silverado offense.

Michael Camburn was 3-for-4 with a RBI, and Payton Ballard drove in two runs on a pair of sacrifice flies.

Diego Delgado doubled for Las Vegas.

Coronado 12, Valley 2 — At Coronado, Cristian Herrera doubled and drove in two runs as the Cougars routed the Vikings in five innings.

Taylor Darden and Ben Lederman each doubled for the Cougars. Dru Pippin, Landen Rowland and John Cascardo each had two RBIs for Coronado.

Brayden Stephenson had a double for Valley.

Green Valley 13, Canyon Springs 3 — At Canyon Springs, Drake Maningo went 3-for-5 with a triple and a double, and the Gators scored in every inning on their way to a win over the Pioneers.

Jake Leonard was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, and Carter Gehlken was 2-for-2 with a double for Green Valley.

Canyon Springs’ Isaiah Brown was 3-for-4, and Trevor Berkemeyer went 2-for-3 for the Pioneers.

Chaparral 5, Desert Pines 3 — At Chaparral, Mark O’Connor pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts as the Cowboys edged the Jaguars.

Eddie Lopez was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and teammate Robert O’Conner supplied and RBI single for Chaparral.

Jeremy Soto, Raymond Minero and Juan Castaneda each had a double for Desert Pines.

Boulder City 15, Del Sol 2 — At Del Sol, Kodey Rahr went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs and two RBIs to help the Eagles rout the Dragons in five innings.

Zach Murphy went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and winning pitcher Steve Wagner was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Boulder City, which led 12-0 after two innings.

Stanley Natale was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Del Sol.

Virgin Valley 5, Moapa Valley 3 — At Mesquite, Dillan Fuqua pitched a complete game to lead the Bulldogs past the Pirates.
