BASEBALL: Roundy’s no-hitter sends Wolves by Mountain Lions

Basic’s Tanner Roundy tossed a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and a walk to lead the Wolves to a 6-0 win over Sierra Vista in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament at Centennial on Thursday.

Roger Riley was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and David Huddleson, Ryne Nelson and Josh McLean all went 2-for-4 for Basic.

Basic 13, Bishop Manogue 1 — At Centennial, Nelson went 3-for-5 with three doubles and two RBIs, and Roundy was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI as the Wolves routed the Miners in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Trever Berg allowed three hits and struck out seven for Basic.

Cory Wills was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and McLean was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Wolves.

Desert Oasis 4, Durango 3 — At Desert Oasis, Kyle Fuentes scored from second on a throwing error with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Diamondbacks edged the Trailblazers in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Fuentes, who also doubled in the game, walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh and moved to second on Bryson Stott’s sacrifice.

Caeden Marin’s chopper to second was mishandled, and the throw to first was wild, allowing Fuentes to score.

Stott was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Desert Oasis. A.J. Landis threw a five-hitter to get the win.

Artie Gallegos was 2-for-2 for Durango.

Desert Oasis 11, Rancho 4 — At Desert Oasis, winning pitcher Nolan Kingham was 2-for-2 with an RBI as the Diamondbacks downed the Rams in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Stott was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, and Chris Van Kuren was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Desert Oasis. Fuentes was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Diamondbacks.

Kagen Kennedy was 2-for-3 for Rancho, and teammate Kavion Kealoha went 2-for-4.

Centennial 9, Sierra Vista 1 — At Centennial, Jake Portaro went 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBIs to lift the Bulldogs by the Mountain Lions in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Anthony Saccente struck out seven and walked two in five innings to earn the win for Centennial. He also went 2-for-3 with a triple for the Bulldogs, who finished with 16 hits.

Jhared Gonzalez and Ryan Carroll each had a double for Sierra Vista.

Centennial 11, Bishop Manogue 4 — At Centennial, Portaro was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the Bulldogs over the Miners in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Zach Dixon went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs, and Travis Stevens was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Centennial. Dixon also struck out nine and allowed one earned run in four innings to get the win.

Jordan Dicus was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI to lead Manogue.

Green Valley 17, Durango 1 — At Durango, Jimmy Montiel tossed a five-inning one-hitter with five strikeouts as the Gators routed the Trailblazers in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Jarrett Perns was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Blake Inouye and Gavin Morley each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Green Valley, which scored seven runs in the fourth and seven more in the fifth.

Richard Mascarenas singled and scored Durango’s run.

Green Valley 4, Rancho 3 — At Durango, the Gators rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh and held off the Rams.

A.J. Amelburu was 2-for-3 for Green Valley. Amelburu tripled home the tying run and scored the go-ahead run on an RBI single by Jarrett Perns in the seventh.

Thomas Rivera threw three scoreless innings of relief to get the win.

Justen Trevizo was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple a run and an RBI to lead Rancho.

Liberty 9, Coronado 1 — At Liberty, Nick Woolery went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs as the Patriots downed the Cougars in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Trevor Mullaney picked up the win, allowing one hit and striking out six in five innings.

Arbor View 6, Palo Verde 2 — At Arbor View, Sam Pastrone went 2-for-2 with two triples and four RBIs and threw five shutout innings to lead the Aggies by the Panthers in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Pastrone struck out seven. He allowed three hits and one walk.

Ryan McHale was 2-for-3 for Arbor View.

Will Hamilton had a double and an RBI for Palo Verde.

Silverado 8, Spring Valley 3 — At Silverado, Alex Grafiada went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs, and Dillon Johnson was 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs to lead the Skyhawks by the Grizzlies in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Vincent Taormina and Chase Cortez each supplied two hits for Silverado.

Nick Rupp and Jack Sellinger each had two hits for Spring Valley.

Boulder City 6, Legacy 1 — At Boulder City, Austin Wishard was 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs to help the Eagles beat the Longhorns.

Preston Van Diest was 2-for-2 with a run and two RBIs, and Nolan Desantis was 3-for-4 with a run for Boulder City, which used a four-run fifth to pull away.

Steve Wagner threw six strong innings, allowing an earned run on five hits, to get the win. He struck out six with no walks.

Faith Lutheran 10, Shadow Ridge 1 — At Faith Lutheran, Daniel Lasky was 4-for-4 with five RBIs to lead the Crusaders over the Mustangs.

Cruz Daddario threw six solid innings, allowing four hits, to get the win. Daddario struck out six with one walk. Kyle Poser threw a scoreless seventh for the Crusaders.

Shadow Ridge’s Trevin Reynolds tripled, and Tyler Burton drove in a run for the Mustangs.

Mojave 7, Valley 6 — At Mojave, Scotty Wilson scored on Ryan Lawrence’s grounder to short with no outs in the bottom of the seventh to give the Rattlers the win over the Vikings in the Sundevil Invitational.

Wilson, who was 3-for-4, singled to start the inning. The Rattlers loaded the bases on bunt singles by Brady Allen and Otto Hernandez.

Wilson also threw a scoreless inning of relief, striking out two, to get the win.

Andrew Foley supplied three hits, an RBI and a stolen base for Mojave, and Chase Anderson and Liam Harris each added two hits.

Valley’s Roberto Gonazlez-Aleman went 3-for-3 with an RBI double, and Geovanni Marrero-Pereznegron had two hits, a run and two RBIs for the Vikings.

Eldorado 2, Moapa Valley 1 — At Eldorado, Trevor Swain scored on a single by David Decker in the bottom of the eighth to give the Sundevils the win over the Pirates in the Sundevil Invitational.

Eldorado tied the game when Josh Brown scored on a throwing error earlier in the inning.

Isaac Villanueva went the distance for Eldorado, allowing two hits and striking out 10.

Eldorado 10, Desert Pines 0 — At Eldorado, Jordan Eldred threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Sundevils to the five-inning win over the Jaguars in the Sundevil Invitational.

Brown was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three runs, and Decker went 2-for-4 with a run for Eldorado.

Chaparral 8, Canyon Springs 1 — At Canyon Springs, Mark O’Connor tossed a three-hitter and struck out nine to lead the Cowboys by the Pioneers in the Sundevil Invitational.

Sunrise Mountain 18, Western 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, Angel Chavez fired a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts as the Miners beat the Warriors in five innings.

Jesus Maillan went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs for Sunrise Mountain.

The Miners, who had six hits, took advantage of 13 walks and six hit batsmen.
